Biological Monitoring

Working With Chemicals?

If your employees are working with chemicals you will probably already have controls in place as per COSHH Regulations 2002.  Part of this is the monitoring of your employees’ exposure to chemicals.  The most common way of doing this is by measuring the chemical content of the air.

Biological monitoring measures the amount absorbed into the body and is conducted by either a sample of breath, urine or blood, dependent on the chemicals the person is exposed to.

Biological monitoring can be useful in assessing how effective the controls in place are.
